A Scott Productions in association with OKP Productions (the makers of Mum, Dad, Meet Sam) are joining forces to bring you a new British Afro/Caribbeanfeature drama titled ABSENT. The film is to star both Aysha Scott (Breach, Oliver Twist, The Prodigal Son) and Segilola Ogidan (Mum, Dad, Meet Sam, Mona, Love Prevails).

ABSENTis a Family Drama inspired by a true story, that is set in London about Angel Washington who comes from a single parent Caribbean family. She has a six year old son and lives a modest life as a successful Accountant. Recently separated from her son’s father, who suddenly relinquishes his parental responsibilities and financial commitments to their livelihood, she is left to get to grips with routines as a single parent – which leads to her being fired from her job.

Marcus Hamilton is a handsome Stockbroker who feels bitter about the breakup and refuses to communicate with Angel or see their son. He quickly moves on with his city life filled with fast cars, drugs and his younger lover.

Angel who is desperate not to have her son be part of the statistics fails to get hold of Marcus which leaves her in an angry rage and after months of no contact and him forgetting their son’s birthday, she takes matters into her own hands. Unfortunately this does not bode down well for Angel who is thus left with a court order to stay away from Marcus and a possible criminal charge.

In the midst of Angel’s strife she is constantly pressured by her mother and sister to make amends with her sick father, the man she seeks to never forgive for abandoning her twenty-five years ago. When her father passes away she embarks on a path of forgiveness and overcomes adversity.

This heartfelt FamilyDrama is set to highlight domestic issues and the long lasting psychological effects surrounding the cycle of absent and single parenting in the black community.

The film is written and will be directed by Aysha Scott – this being her directorial debut, and produced by SegilolaOgidanset to go into production summer 2016.

SegilolaOgidan shares “when Aysha came to me with the script I was completely blown away and knew that I had to be involved. It’s a fantastic strong tale that I believe should be told and I’m excited to be working with her on her directorial debut.”

Aysha Scott was inspired to write the film from her past experiences with her son’s absent father. She felt it was a tale all too familiar in the black community and one she needs to share with the world as the main stream media tend to shy away from it.

Segilola further goes on to say “we really hope we get some great sponsors and charities behind this film as that will give such great pulling power. We need this film to reach the masses and that’s what we’re working hard towards.”

Aysha is also the writer for Single Mum’s Diary https://ayshascott.wordpress.com/ a fortnightly blog that gives insight into Aysha Scott’s trials and tribulations as a single mother on her journey to success and how her inspiration for the film came into fruition.
