BASCA Kick Starts 2013 Professional Business Development Programme For Songwriters & Composers

Following the success of last year’s pilot series, BASCA is delighted to announce the launch of our new Professional Business Development Programme for 2013, aimed at supporting Songwriters and Composers to exploit their own business or career development opportunities. All five “modules” within the Programme are designed and delivered as “stand alone” sessions, to facilitate attendance on any or all as required.

The first session takes place on the evening of Wednesday 8th May in the PRS for Music Boardroom, and begins by focusing on “Songwriter & Composer Self Management versus Professional Representation”. Already confirmed to take part is Lizzie Francis from Spilt Milk Management (representing: Eg White; Justin Parker; Jim Duguid; Adj Buffone; Gez Connell; Hutch; Nick Hodgson), and TV and film music composer Paul Farrer. Details of additional guest speakers will be made available shortly.

Developing, directing and managing commercial opportunities as a songwriter or composer doesn’t always demand professional representation – or does it? What can or should we do ourselves? What exactly constitutes the ideal professional team nowadays? How may we define “good” or “bad” professional service providers? What should we look for, expect or avoid when working with lawyers, accountants, managers or agents – and how do they all relate to music publishers?

The session also covers rights issues, business models and potential revenue streams available to songwriters and composers working in today’s music & media industries; together with key decisions to be made.
