Tammy V Recaps Her Favourite Songs of Summer 2016…

tammy_musicSummer is officially over (even though it never really begun)! The kids are back at school, Uni is about to start and for some reason going into work seems that much more stressful. Over the summer the amount of great music released was immense, we saw the return of Artists such as Giggs, new music from the likes of Chipmunk and Bigz and Lady Leshurr; and the emergence of new rising stars such as Stefflon Don, Imani Williams and Nao who among others have lit the torch for British female artists.

So I’ve decided to do a kind of recap, not on music I have mentioned previously this month but on some songs that I loved this summer that didn’t make my new music releases. Check them out below!

Marsha Ambrosius is one of our greatest vocalist in my opinion, the artist who rose to fame as part of group Floetry has become a household name in the US, but her roots are firmly British. Her song ‘Have You Ever’ was released this June and featured on the ‘We Remember Dennis Brown’ album which is out now. If ever there was a summer vibe this was it, it really took me waaay back!

Changing up the vibe and the tempo from reggae to Afro Beats we look at the artist Tiwa Savage. The Nigerian born, London schooled, Us artist released a banger this summer with the tune ‘Bad’ featuring Wizkid. The artist who recently signed a management and publishing deal with RocNation is doing big things.

Now to a British born Afrobeats artist, Mista Silva who released new record ‘Lifestyle’ along with an official video at the end of August. ‘Lifestyle’ is an Afrobeats / Dancehall infusion looking at his journey so far.

Girl group Stooshe released a new track in June titled ‘Let it Go’, the dance track and video is a far cry from the fun comedic visuals we are used to seeing from them but the song is catchy and a good comeback for the girls.

Just 2 and a half weeks after releasing his first single ‘Whippin Excursion’ from new album ‘Landlord’, Giggs released the official video for ‘501’ featuring CasIsDead.

US artist Jeremih has just released a new mixtape titled ‘Late Nights: Europe’. The track entitled ‘London’ features UK artists Stefflon Don and Krept and Konan and is a big tune!

Well known Funky House artist Donae’o has been releasing quite a bit of music recently and his latest track ‘Polo’ will surely be making its rounds on the club scene. The artist known for his popular track ‘Party hard’ mixes Afro-beats and Funky House to create this Banger.

Ms Banks is doing her thing right now, and is one of the UK’s best female lyricists, she recently released a single for the film ‘The Intent’ featuring Ayo Beatz. Check out her newest release ‘IDNFWU’ the track does not disappoint!

One thing I’ve noticed is lacking in the UK are female vocalist. Tanika has been on the underground scene for some time now and brings some good music. Check out her latest single ‘In You’ a great song with even better visuals. An underrated artist who in my opinion needs to go mainstream ASAP.
