Youngers
Youngers is a British comedy drama series created by Benjamin Kuffuor. It began airing on E4 on 20 March 2013. It is produced by Big Talk Productions. The series has been picked up for international distribution by BBC Worldwide.
The eight-part programme is set in South-East London and follows a group of friends trying to negotiate their way through teenage life and launch a music career.
Youngers focuses on the characters Yemi – an honour student (Ade Oyefeso)and aspiring producer – and Jay (Calvin Demba), who enters a local music competition after failing his GCSEs.
The series was greenlit for an eight episode order in August 2012. Producer Luke Alkin said in an interview that the series is inspired by the mainstream success of British urban music, citing artists such as Dizzee Rascal and Tinie Tempah as models for the lead characters of Jay and Yemi.
YouTube stars Mandem On The Wall, individually known as BRIT school graduates Jovian Wade, Percelle Ascott and Dee Kartier, appear alongside new talent spotted at open auditions attended by 350 actors, rappers and aspiring music artists aged 16-19.
